Shakhrisyabz, the Birthplace of Turco-Mongol Conqueror Timur

Originally acknowledged as Kesh which means heart-pleasing, this city is now popular as Shakhrisyabz as a part of Uzbekistan. Many people in Central Asia in particular recognize this city as the birthplace of Timur, Turco-Mongol Conqueror who was famous in 14th century. Shakhrisyabz has been considered as one of major cities in Central Asia.

Historically, Shakhrisyabz was establish over 2700 years ago, the reason of its being the most ancient city in its region of Central Asia. This city experienced numerous conquers; like the ones done by Alexander the Great and Arabs. Russian has helped this city to get autonomy under the Bukharan rule in 1870.

Landmarks

Timurid dynasty left several historical buildings and monuments which are now secured as World Heritage List by UNESCO. Some of those landmarks of Shakhrisyabz are Kok Gumbaz Mosque (Dorut Tilavat Complex0, Hazrat-I Imam Complex, and Aq-Saray Palace which is the Summer Palace of Timur which is said as the most extravagant construction in Timur’ era. Besides, you can also come and see other ancient houses, mausoleums, and mosques.

How and When to Get Shakhrisyabz

It is possible to reach the center of Shakhrisyabz from Samarkand. You can take available public transportation like bus or taxi from Samarkand.  Shakhrisyabz is on the south part of Samarkand; for about 80 kilometers. You can travel around on foot.

The most appropriate time to have a visit to Shakhrisyabz is on March-June, during the spring time. The weather in this period of time is sunny and clear.
