Kandy, The Cultural Capital of Sri Lanka

Located in the center of Sri Lanka, Kandy is recognized for being the cultural capital of Sri Lanka and the city is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. The citizens of Kandy are proud of their culture and their heritage. The city is known to have lesser crime rate compare to most part of Sri Lanka.

Visitors may reach the city by taking car, bus, minivan, train, taxi or air taxi from Colombo. For the air taxi, the visitors will have float planes The De Havilland Twin Otter those will take off from Kelani River and landing on Mahaweli River in Polgolla with the flight takes for about 30 minutes. The air taxi is a new option to the list of transportation to Kandy. The weather in Kandy will remain hot and humid throughout the year and visiting Kandy can be done anytime. However, it may be best to consider coming during November to April.

Visitors may take a look around the city by hiring a three-wheeler called Tuk-Tuk with the cheap price and can be found for every time. Visitors may also take a walk or hire a taxi to visit various places in the city. The Temple of Tooth is an example of places to be visited. Just like its name, it houses the tooth relic of Lord Buddha and considered being the most holy shrine all over Sri Lanka. Pay a visit to the beat botanical garden of Sri Lanka, The Royal Botanical Garden or visit Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage. Tea Museum is also a worthy place to be visited.
